PART 1 – GOAL SETTING/VISION
Did you know according to Forbes just 8% of people achieve their new year’s resolution. We hear and see people around us achieve success, but how do they do it? Over the next 7 weeks I will be discussing the different steps you can take in order to help you achieve success. This does not have to be in the form of money which you may associate with the word success, but it could be what you are after. It could be you want to eat healthier, lose weight, give up smoking or get a better job. So let’s get started.
“If you don’t design your own life plan, chances are you will fall into someone else’s plan. And guess what they have planned for you? Not Much.”
The first step to take before you start implementing any action is to decide on what it is exactly that you want. Give yourself the space and take some time to get clear on what your goals and vision is. The best thing you can do for yourself is to be as clear and specific as possible. Rather than writing I want to earn more money, say how much more. If you get another $5 it is still more money, but you are probably wanting more than that, so be specific. If you want to lose weight, state how much weight you want to lose.
WHY? If you get clear on the why than the how will take care of itself. Think about the goals you have set and why you want to achieve them. What would it mean to you if you achieve that particular goal? If you earn more money it may mean that you won’t have to stress about bills or you could take your family on that holiday you have always wanted. By getting clear on the why it will also help you in determining whether the goal you have set is in alignment with your values. If it isn’t something that is going to get you excited or get you out of bed than you are most likely setting yourself up for failure. BEWARE!! Make sure the goals you are setting are things YOU want to achieve and not things that other people want you to achieve.
I would love for you to share and let me know how you go with this step. Next week I will be discussing visualization and why it is important in achieving your goals.
